Also, as part of the Photographing Nature in Costa Rica study tour, Emmitt captured three pelicans sitting on top of a rock in the Pacific Ocean, waiting for potential fish to eat.

The Experience Tanzania: Religion, Society, and Culture study tour went on two safaris and saw many African animals in the wild. This photo is at the Ngorongoro Crater. Azahna says, “We saw elephants, lions, rhinos, hippos, ostriches, flamingos, wildebeest, warthogs, and much more this day, but the zebras were my personal favorite.”

Winner: Indigo Casadont ’26
While on a boat under the Cataratas del Iguazú (Iguazu Falls) as part of the Flora, Fauna, and Culture study tour in Argentina, Indigo learned just how serious the Guarani people were when they named the magnificent stretch of waterfalls “big water” (Iguazú).
2nd Place: Lilly Fradette ’26
During the Photographing Nature in Costa Rica study tour, the guide asked if the group wanted to watch the sunset at a cool lookout. Lilly says, “Little did we know that when we got there, we would climb on top of the bus to watch and take pictures of the sunset over the ocean.”
Honorable Mention: Avery Larsen ’27
As part of the Comparative Health Systems: Priorities and Perspectives study tour, the group studied the differences between healthcare systems to help create an improved healthcare environment for our patients. At the National Museum of Medicine in Norway, there is a painting that expresses the importance of religion and healthcare coexisting. In this photo, Tara Schaalma ’26 appreciates the beauty of the painting and contemplates the meaning of religion and its positive impacts on society.
Carthage students found a “Firebird red” carriage while on the The Role of Tourism in Cuba and Its Effect on Cuban Society study tour! During a trip to Cuba’s Valle de Viñales (or Viñales Valley) the group examined the impact of tourism on the local economy. Horse-drawn carriages are tourist attractions, as well as the locally owned fincas, where tourists can buy Cuban products directly from the local farm families rather than the government.
